Another day of mental health awareness. This time with the families of people who suffer from addiction. Spoke on- 'RELAPSE PREVENTION IN ADDICTION' and what role the family can play. Family dynamics, attitudes and the overall understanding of the family about addiction as well as the personality and stressors of the patient who suffers from addiction is important for relapse prevention, recovery and ultimate social integration. Attending regular sessions together, understanding the behaviours which enable addiction, discussing stigma and related frustrations, caregiving distress etc with your Psychiatrist and Psychologist goes a long way to help your near and dear one to deal with addiction. Addiction is not just an individual concern, it has an effect on family as well as how family behaves has an effect on addiction as well. Happy to have spoken and discussed on this important aspect of awareness on mental health.
